Who Are We?
Motte & Bailey, prod. is a theatrical producing company put together by a rag tag band of Baltimore Theatre Veterans (they fought in the great theatre wars) in the Spring of 2024 to present the immersive experience, An Evening With The Baron, created by Lance Bankerd, which happened at the Peale Museum in Baltimore, as well as at Elk River Brewing Co.’s Beer Garden in Elkton, Maryland. Since then Motte & Bailey has produced a memorial Cabaret for our dear friend Maggie Flanigan in October of 2024 known as Maggie’s Cabaret at Fells Point Corner Theatre; as well as the wildly successful and critically acclaimed Hamlet / Black Parade, conceived and directed by Hannah Fogler, presented at The Mercury Theatre, Boordy Vineyards, and The Cloisters Castle.
Motte & Bailey, prod. takes its name from the traditional castle architectural style of the middle ages that was "relatively easy to build with unskilled labour, but still militarily formidable," while also playing on the style of traditional theatre duos of Kander & Ebb, Rodgers & Hammerstein, and Webber & Rice by creating our own fictional patrons: Mr. Motte & Mr. Bailey. Additionally our core team is composed of Lance Bankerd, Hannah Fogler, Donna Ibale, Lorraine Imwold, Brad Norris and a gaggle of talented artists known affectionately as The Woodsluts. Together we set out to defy every cynical narrative, and produce art that we hope will leave you stunned and wanting more.
Our 2026 offerings will include a series of musical Shakespeare adaptations by Hannah Fogler: Caesar/Americana in March, Midsummer/Queen in June, and Titus/Meatloaf in October. Throughout the year we are also planning several smaller events: Maggie’s Cabaret 2 & 3, Dame Jacqueline Thunderfüq's Valentine’s Gay Cabaret, Wisky & Waits, and more!
